Patty Tavatanakit and Jake Knapp hold a one-stroke lead heading into the first round of the Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, Florida.
Thailand’s Tavatanakit and American Knapp shot 14-under 58 with 12 birdies and an eagle in the mixed event on the PGA and LPGA Tours.
American pair Jennifer Kupcho and Akshay Bhatia and Canadian pair Brooke Henderson and Corey Connors tied for second place by one stroke.
The event, held at Tiburon Golf Club from December 13 to 15, is held over three rounds with a total prize pool of £3.5 million ($4 million) and involves 16 pairs of mixed players.
New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and Australia’s Jason Day won the inaugural Grant Thornton Invitational in 2023, finishing their round with birdies to move into a tie for sixth place.
The last mixed team event hosted by the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour was the 1999 JC Penney Classic.
