Codes can also be used to register voters.

As our anti-Trump demonstrations become stronger, we can do more to attract new participants. The No Kings Day parade and rally demonstrated strength and spirit, increased the courage of participants, and gave us voice through our numbers and the breadth of existence. Trump’s Iran strike should be further intensified. But no matter which aspect of the regime action we emphasize, we also need to see demonstrations as organizational opportunities, link newcomers to evolving movements, and challenge the Trump regime.
What if future sized demos include QR codes on logos, then new participants can be linked to an evolving movement? And, what if the main organizations created joint sites targeting anti-Trump T-shirts, bumper stickers and buttons with similar QR codes to connect people?
Many people participating in the demonstrations have already been linked to various organizations and groups. But most are not. They came through pre-media reports and it may not happen so much next time because there is no concurrent Trump march. They came because they saw signs on the street. Friends tell them the last minute. We will never know the exact combination, but it is crucial to stay connected with those who join the sport at the moment of maximum engagement. We do this by connecting them with organizations that can provide ongoing resources to speak out and take action, and help new participants engage others.
With enough volunteers, sponsor groups can do this by signing directly with attendees to get alerts on the organization’s network and social networking sites, registering them to vote or recruiting them in subsequent fares and phone banks. But it’s hard to do when your crowd is large. So for the next big national event, but for the large local action, organizers can place QR codes on banners and signs that will link to websites where people can register with the main sponsoring groups. Volunteers can radiate signs in the crowd with messages like “Keep Engagement” followed by QR code. QR codes can also be used to help people register to vote.
The same method can be used with sports equipment. It’s great that people start not wearing King and anti-Trump T-shirts and buttons. They conveyed a key message that Trump may have power, but we also want to, and the more people we have, the more power we have. Maga Hats helps move Trump supporters. Our own shared symbols can also enhance us.
BUIT Although this equipment is very easy to find online, it does not provide a way for people to participate. Adding a QR code leads people to an online engagement hub can do this. Supportive musicians can even use the same QR codes and show them on stage to help them participate in the concert.
QR codes that use parades and other events will have to decide which groups to have: 200 organizations do not sponsor the King. But organizers can provide people with the choice of links, so they don’t have to be just a group. Rapidly growing organizations also face challenges from new players, including those with different agendas. We saw this in the Vietnam War-era movement, the Arab Spring and the 2013 Brazil protests that began opposing bus fare hiking but inadvertently paved the way for Bolsonaro (as documented by Vincent Bevins. If we burn). But if we are going to attract people in numbers to reject the Trump regime’s attack on democracy, we must get new people involved and help attract others. QR codes can be an important tool to help achieve this goal.
